Tutorial for open windows

This tutorial shows how to have Arch Windows and Doors open in the 3D model, and to indicate this in a plan and elevation projection. It uses the Arch Workbench and the TechDraw Workbench.

Basics

Build a simple building with closed walls, two doors and two windows.

In order for an Arch Window to be positioned well, you should use the Draft Snap toolbar with the Draft Near method. Having other methods active may cause some issues, so try this first. Once the Window is in parallel to the Wall, you can adjust the position from the Property view.

Open the windows and doors

  • Make the Sketch of a Door visible.
  • Double click a Door in the tree view.
  • There are two panes, Wires and Components.
  • Normally there are two wires, Wire0 and Wire1.
  • Normally there are two Components, OuterFrame and Door.
  • Click on Door, and click the Edit button. This shows the properties like Type, Wires, Thickness, and Offset.
  • In the 3D view, select only one vertical edge in the Sketch of the Door. Click on Get selected edge.
  • The button should change to an edge name, for example, Edge8.
  • Change the Opening mode to Arc 90, or any other option.
  • Click the +Create/update component button.
  • Close the dialogs.
  • Now you can set the Arch Door's properties: Opening (number), and Symbol Elevation, and Symbol Plan.
