Description

The Make Relief command starts the first of three steps to convert a shell object made with tools of the Part or PartDesign workbench into an unfoldable SheetMetal object.

All edges where faces meet need to be separate; that's why the corners have to be cut off.

These cut-offs resemble corner reliefs, thus the naming Make Relief.

Make Relief - cut off corners

Usage

First step to convert a hollow cuboid (shell object) into an unfoldable SheetMetal object:

Cut off the corners
  1. Select one or more corner vertex(es)
  2. Activate the Make Relief command using the:
    • Make Relief button
    • SheetMetal → Make Relief drop down menu
    • keyboard shortcut: S then R

-->

Notes

The tools Make Relief, Make Junction, and Make Bend work best with hollow cuboids i.e. shell objects having a constant thickness and all angles between their faces are 90°.

Shell objects can be created with tools from the Part or PartDesign workbenches.

A cuboid can be created with following Part tools:

  1. Part Cube
  2. Part Extrude from either:
Use Part Thickness to create a shell object from the cuboid (Typically with the thickness value of the sheet metal.)

Or with their PartDesign equivalents within a PartDesign Body:

  1. Additive Box
  2. PartDesign Pad from a Sketch.
Use PartDesign Thickness to create the shell object (Typically with the thickness value of the sheet metal.)

Properties

See also: Property editor.

A SheetMetal Relief object is derived from a Part Feature object and inherits all its properties. It also has the following additional properties and its label has a default value:

Data

Base

  • DataLabel (String): Default value: Relief (+ a sequential number for second and following items).
The user editable name of this object, it may be any arbitrary UTF8 string.
  • Data (hidden)Base Feature (Link): Base Feature. Link to the parent feature.
  • Data (hidden)_Body (LinkHidden): Hidden link to the parent body.

Parameters

  • Database Object (LinkSub): "Base Object". Links to the corner vertexes defining relief positions.
  • Datarelief (Length): "Relief Size". Default: 2,00 mm.
