Incorrect use of Incode template[edit source]

You are now adding the Incode template wherever you see the word "object". That is not how the template should be used. Please stop with this. Thanks.

--Roy 043 (talk) 08:43, 8 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ok but how do we distinguish the code object from the name of the command? On one hand, we must not translate and the other one, translators can do what he wants.

Std Import: What is the rush??[edit source]

The Edit paragraph still need work IMO. It is not up-to-date. Why go so fast with this page?

--Roy 043 (talk) 08:53, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

because I only focused on the usage paragraph and I am not aware of updates on the Edit §.
But you have worked on the Edit paragraph yesterday!

misundertood when you say Edit, sorry. I ran into that dialog and IMO, what I have changed is the only thing. if there is something else, tell me.

Note about your recent TechDraw bulk edit[edit source]

You have tried to make the introduction of the TD command reference pages more consistent. In itself that is a good thing. But it may not be a good idea to remove the command icons. In the Wiki this icon is also visible in the GuiCommand template. But this template is not used in the GitHub version of the Wiki pages.

Have you seen this message?
--Roy 043 (talk) 06:29, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

It's only today I have received notification of your message today and no notification for the one 29th of May. Do you suggest me to put back the icons on TD wb? I can. What about others wb? For ex https://wiki.freecad.org/Sketcher_RenderingOrder

Some wiki pages describe objects rather than tools, that' why I reverted the TechDraw_Templates' changes. I think this applies to TechDraw_Linegroups as well.
I removed lots of icons from translation, but I'll postpone further removals until Roy and you have agreed whether or not to keep/put back the icons.
--FBXL5 (talk) 11:12, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
There are inconsistencies in the command reference pages. The icon in the Description is not an official standard. This was introduced by another editor but only for the pages the editor happened to be working on. When rewriting the Draft WB command pages I decided to always insert the icon in the Description to avoid future inconsistencies as it were.
A large batch of commands has recently been added to the TechDraw WB. Because there were so many it made sense to also include the icon in the Description on those pages. The idea being that at some point the remaining pages would be updated accordingly.
For the Sketcher command page you refer to the situation is different. Here only a few new pages were added and it made more sense to follow the local WB standard.
My comment was not a request to put the icons back (or add them where they were missing), but rather a reminder that it can be a good idea to also consider the impact of changes on the GitHub version of the documentation. But let's not remove these icons from the Draft WB.
--Roy 043 (talk) 14:46, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Note and understood about Draft wb. About Sketcher and others, the point is at the end, there is a "rule" for each wb plus to take into account Github version (which is not spontaneous for me). I have no problem to uniformize all wb, at least on this point, if we agree on what to do.

Please don't add internal prefixes to user-visible links[edit source]

Hello David, I see you recently made these changes: https://wiki.freecad.org/index.php?title=FEM_ConstraintCurrentDensity&diff=1229121&oldid=1228695

We have the alias for links for the purpose to hide the internal names (prefixes, etc.). The Wiki pages is designed for end user. They should read, that in this case another equation is related. If this is defined in FEM, Std, or whatever, is not important. Once they clicked the link, they will see the prefix anyway. So by omitting the internal names, we are more user-friendly, because there is less text to read and we treat normal users as such, no need to bother them with internals. The latter is feedback I often got from users. (Besides this feedback, the feedback about our Wiki is positive. Compared to other software, it is excellent.

many thanks for all your good work! an regards --uwestoehr (talk) 15:17, 14 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Received the msg[edit source]

I will not modify anymore the master pages only the French pages to be coherent with the rest of the French wiki. Thanks also with you recent work. I am discovering the magnetisation equations. Long time ago I have made studies on microwaves and Maxwell has been my friend.

by the way, I made few translations with the intro of new FEM tools on Crowdin and I left comments like typoes.

> I will not modify anymore the master pages only the French pages to be coherent with the rest of the French wiki.
Oh, this was not my intention Please keep up your good work! It is only that we get the feedback to keep things more simple.
Besides this, this code: FEM PostFilterClipRegion and FEM PostFilterClipRegion lead to the same result:
FEM PostFilterClipRegion and FEM PostFilterClipRegion
So there is no link text necessary to omit the "_" character.
Insert non-formatted text here

to translate, I am using DeepL which is better than Google (and also I prefer to avoid to use this company). here is an example of the impact of "_" character. it is not systematic but if there is no "_", the chances all the text is translated are highly increased. below a screenshot of the impact of presence of "_".

Please do not change the correct Part Primitives command name to something else[edit source]

https://wiki.freecadweb.org/index.php?title=Part_Circle&type=revision&diff=1222561&oldid=1106618

Thanks.

About usage of technical terms[edit source]

Hi David, I got feedback from the community that we should use less technical terms in the Wiki. An example: - in the Web_Workbench you changed now the whole docnav to e.g. "BrowserSetURL" instead of human-friendly "Set URL". The criticism is that we are focused on technical terms but users want to know when clicking on something what this would be about.

Please also see the same discussion I have with roy: User_talk:Roy_043#FEM_ResultsPurge Let's please discuss this in the Forum. I will open a new thread there.

thanks and regards --uwestoehr (talk) 13:02, 14 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Uwe, I have no issue to put more friendly wording but here I am only following the rules for the English wiki. If you switch to the French version, you'll see not only for matter of translation I have to adapt but also simply it is more understandable. You may have remark on the commands receive the exact wording of the command of the page which, if I am not wrong, is the mirror of the command itself in the code. For the little story, it happens couple yrs ago, I had switch barbarianEnglishwording in something easier to read and guess what?... So the central question is: what to follow knowing today Roy and me we are here but tomorrow somebody can interpret differently. I have no answer may be open a discussion. And if I can add something, IMO, FEM and Path are the two black points on Crowdin for the similar reasons. We will find a way. br - david

Please don't run bots without prior discussions[edit source]

You make several changes within a minute: https://wiki.freecadweb.org/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/David69&dir=prev&offset=20220312130859&limit=500&target=David69 Can you please discuss before in the forum what you intend to change? For example your bot changes

Placement

to

Placement

which is no benefit, only creates more code. And even worse, your changed pages might now marked to be translated despite nothing visible was in effect changed. So many people invest now time to see that nothing happened.

--uwestoehr (talk) 20:22, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

it's because any links is built like this. when we translate, we need to write Placement, Placement and so on.

david

Only in the translated pages need this and translators know this since they must e.g. translate also the term "Placement". The original ones don't need this. Therefore please don't make changes without a need.
--uwestoehr (talk) 22:57, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you want if it's a matter to save few lines of code. It won't help translators, and I have made couple translations. The wiki says https://wiki.freecadweb.org/WikiPages#Links. It was a common agreement between writers and translators.

About your changes to the Draft command documentation[edit source]

Your recent changes go against the GuiCommand_model. Example: https://wiki.freecadweb.org/index.php?title=Draft_AddConstruction&type=revision&diff=1080757&oldid=1051580

If you want to change the GuiCommand_model you should approach it differently and not bulk change 21 pages like this.

--Roy 043 (talk) 10:11, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes I did it yesterday evening. Following translations on Draft workbench, I have noticed that the command for the button was not what we read on the button itself. I can cancel. I apologize.

You are translating the old Draft WB documentation[edit source]

I notice that you have worked on translating the Draft WB documentation. As indicated on f.e. the Draft_Wire page this documentation is currently being rewritten. There is also a topic in the forum warning about this: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=57154. I know it is taking a long time, but it would still be better to be patient and wait.

--Roy 043 (talk) 12:51, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Roy for the notification and in particular the link. Yes I did small changes on Draft pages mainly on the location of the tools. I won't go further.

Please stop removing the WB prefix[edit source]

You have taken on removing the WB prefix from the description of the toolbar button on many, many pages. As I understand it this does not match the current standard. Please stop for now. Let's discus this first.

--Roy 043 (talk) 08:27, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I just read your comment now after my answer on the forum. I stop here waiting for our decision.

Sketcher WB: Removed Version=0.19[edit source]

You have added Version=0.19 in the documentation for a number of Sketcher WB tools that already existed, and only were renamed. Your confusion is understandable when you read the banners that were added to the old pages.

I have corrected this now.

Regards, Roy_043.

 • vos modifications pourraient être écrasées par la prochaines traduction automatique ;

Cf. https://wiki.freecad.org/WikiPages/fr

Bien cordialement Korvent Korvent (talk) 21:00, 22 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Bonjour Korvent,
- J'ai corrigeé Cut par soustraction, tu as raison.
Cdlt,
