Description
The Points Import command imports a point cloud from a file.
Usage
- There are several ways to invoke the command:
- Press the Points Import button.
- Select the Points → Import Points... option from the menu.
- Select a point cloud file.
- Press the Open button.
Properties
Point cloud objects are App GeoFeature objects with the following additional properties. Select the Show all option from the Property editor context menu to display the hidden properties.

Base
- DataPoints (
PointsKernel
): a Points PointsKernel associated with this object. - DataNormal (
NormalList
): a list of normals. This property is only available if the point cloud object was created by the Points Convert command from a shape object with faces or a mesh object.
View
Base
- ViewPoint Size (
FloatConstraint
): the size in pixels of the points in the 3D view.
Point cloud file format
- A point cloud file must have the .asc, .pcd or .ply extension.
- Each line in the file must list the X, Y and Z coordinates of a point.
- The coordinates must be separated by spaces.
- The coordinates must use a decimal point, not a decimal comma.

For testing you can use this file, which is a low polygon version of the Stanford Bunny.
